Inclusion at St Joseph’s incorporates Special and Additional needs of our students. We have a specialist Co-ordinator of Special and Additional Learning Needs, who is supported by a dedicated and experienced team of Administration Staff and Teaching Assistants, both at Pupil level and Curriculum level.

The Additional Learning Needs Department is responsible for providing support for all students with Additional Needs. This could be provided on a 1:1 basis or in the form of small group sessions. Teaching Assistants and HLTAs are sufficiently trained in order to allow them to support the students with Additional Needs, specifically in areas including cognition and learning, communication and interaction, emotional, social and behavioural difficulties and self esteem and confidence building.

The ALN department has close links with all subjects, the Nurture Centre and pastoral care, under the guidance of the Director of Student Services who is our SENCO lead in school. The SENCO and COSAN work closely with outside agencies on a regular basis to ensure a consistent approach to meeting the needs of our students.

We are lucky to have our ‘JK’ Nurture Centre, incorporating the Nurture room and Support room, offering great facilities that are much needed to our community.
