KS4 Syllabus

Number of Sessions Per Week: 3 x 50 minute sessions

Homework: Once-twice per week

 

The drama course is divided into three units:

 

Unit 1 – Drama Exploration (6 hour practical)

In drama lessons you will use explorative strategies and drama mediums to explore themes, topics and issues. Through using drama mediums and strategies you will devise your own drama.

 

60 marks overall.

 

The Learning Curve

Unit 1 focuses on the way you put drama together. You will be continually assessed in class. You will take notes in a journal which will help you to write a documentary response of 2,000 words. This will be completed in class.

 

Unit 2 – Exploring Play Texts (6 hours)

You will read and study a play chosen by the teacher.  You will explore the way the play has been written and think about the impact it would

make on an audience. You will present extracts from the play, focusing on performance skills. You will see a live performance of a play and write a review.  You will write a 2,000 word review of this process.

 

20 marks overall.

 

Unit 3 – Drama Performance

You will either act in a play in a group, or present a costume design or a lighting design to an external examiner.

 

80 marks overall.

 

Career Possibilities

Past students have used the skills and confidence gained on this course to pursue further education courses and careers in a wide range of fields, for example past pupils have gone on to:

Acting in theatre, television and film. Parts requiring confidence and excellent inter personal skills like doctors, nurses, teaching, sales, retail, marketing, advertising and tourism. Technical jobs in the arts and video industries. Design and creative jobs in the computer games industry. Parts where presentation skills are important.
