Bolton Book Awards

Bolton Children's Book Award

Welcome to the Bolton Children's Book Awards Section of our School Website. We hope you find it useful and informative.

What is Bolton Book Awards?

Bolton Book Awards is organised by Bolton Library Service. A panel of judges have spent six months reading modern fictional novels written for children.  Then, a shortlist of eight books have been chosen for this year's book awards. The challenge is for you to read all eight books by May.

Who can get involved?

Anyone from years 7, 8 or 9 who are interested in reading new books by new authors can get involved.  You must enjoy reading and think that you can meet the challenge of reading eight books in four months!

How can I get involved?

See Miss Atherton or Mr Rylance to get your first book to start the reading challenge! We will also have regular meetings about twice a half term, where you can discuss your opinions of the books, swap books and see how your fellow readers are doing with the challenge! The challenge starts every February and finished in May. If you don't manage to read all of them, they will be on display in the LRC/Library throughout the rest of the year.

What will happen once I've chosen who to vote for?

You will vote (after reading all eight books) before the end of May (date varies from year to year). Other high school across Bolton who are taking part in the awards will also send their votes to Bolton Library Service. Then, the winner will be annouced at a ceremony in the Summer.  You will be invited along to the ceremony, where you will get a chance to meet the authors of the eight books, listen to them speak about what inspired them to write and have a chance to ask them anything you want to!

Are there any other competitions I can get involved in along the way?

Yes! If you have access to the internet, follow the link to http://www.boltonliteracytrust.org.uk/9.html and you will be able to post your reviews of the books, read what other people think and there may be an alternative book cover competition you could get involved in!
